Chapter 01

The look of hardwood at a lower price

People love the look of hardwood and do not always love the price. Laminate gives you realistic wood visuals at a more affordable number, so you get the room you pictured without stretching the budget.

The plank racks in our showroom hold styles from Shaw, Mohawk, Mannington, Engineered Floors, Stonewood and Armstrong. Hold a real board up against your cabinets and trim before you decide, and take samples home to see them in your own light.

A wear layer that takes scratches and dents

Laminate has a tough, protective surface that helps resist scratches and dents. Homes with pets, kids or heavy foot traffic need a floor that does not show damage quickly, and a good wear layer is how laminate does that.

Check the rating on any sample you like. AC3 or higher covers normal traffic, and AC4 is the one to pick for a busy household.

Chapter 03

Easy to keep clean, and honest about water

Everyday sweeping and mopping is all it takes. For the rooms that always seem to get messy, that is a real point in laminate's favor, and it is quick to install too.

The limit is water. Most laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof, so it handles quick spills but not standing water. Bathrooms, laundry rooms and basements belong to luxury vinyl, and we will say so at the measurement.

Laminate from $1.99/sq ft, the everyday price on our specials page. Plank racks to browse at 713 S. 1st Street, Yakima.

Laminate or luxury vinyl? Pick by the room.

Both give you a wood look. The difference is how they handle water and what you pay, so we start with where the floor is going.

Bedrooms and living areas
Laminate gives a slightly more wood-like feel and suits dry rooms on a tight budget.
Bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements
Most laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof. For these rooms we steer you to waterproof luxury vinyl instead.
Busy households
Look for an AC3 rating or higher for normal traffic, and AC4 where the house never stops moving.
Cost
Laminate is one of the more affordable options and often runs a little under luxury vinyl. Final pricing depends on the product and the installation.
